Bill Percival started me on Euphonium in 4th-grade
at the Manor School. My main influence to play the euphonium was my
father (I am the 4th generation of Borden euphonium players).
Wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of both of my parents! I
received Bachelor and Master of Music Education degrees from Ithaca
College. Began my teaching career in Cincinnatus (2 yrs.); Have been at
HF-L since 1986.
Proudest accomplishments: My family; Overseeing the
growth of the program and facilities here in the district; 5-time finalist
in Essentially Ellington Competition at Lincoln Center; 2003 Rochester
Philharmonic Orchestra Outstanding Educator Award; 1999 inductee HF-L
Alumni Hall of Fame; Making a connection and having an impact on many
young people over the years.

What you most enjoy, or find especially
fulfilling, about being a part of Community Band: |
I most enjoy the camaraderie and friendships in the
band. The balance of good literature well-performed with the fun we have
is a special quality of this group. I love the multi-generational
representation; the party at Rod’s; the picnic at Dave’s; the insults from
the trumpet section; “BREAK!!!”; and the good-looking director!

Of the music we play, is there a type or piece
that is your favorite: |
“We Three Kings” holds a place dear to my heart, and
you can never have enough “Mouthpiece Mania”! |
