I began playing the baritone in the 4th
grade. In high school, I took up tuba and string bass and played all
three instruments in a variety of large bands and orchestras and in
smaller ensembles through college. After college, I took 10 years off
until I bought a trombone and began playing in the RGE Big Band (dance
band). I joined the Pittsford Fire Department band in 1975 and played
sousaphone and baritone for 18 years (and occasionally since) with
Pittsford.
I joined the HFCCB on day one playing the baritone
and sort of “directed” the band (which means I started us off on a piece
and hoped for the best). Finally, a real musician and leader (Lindsey)
offered to direct (yea!!). At that point, I began to play tuba. |

What you most enjoy, or find especially
fulfilling, about being a part of Community Band: |
I enjoy the people, their dedication to music and the
enjoyment I see in the faces of our audiences. |
|
Of the music we play, is there a type or piece
that is your favorite: |
The big orchestral pieces such as the 1812. I also
enjoy the Christmas music. |
