Music Background:
|
I started playing
clarinet in 5th grade and played all the way through college at Geneseo,
in both the Wind Ensemble and the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra. I played
bari and tenor saxophone in high school in our jazz ensemble and I was
also the drum major in our marching band. A huge highlight was being
chosen to march in the 1980 winter Olympics in Lake Placid - we led the
parade the day that Eric Heiden won his 5th gold medal! When I taught at
Perry, I was asked to play clarinet in a few concerts, but I didn't play
consistently until I joined the community band a few years ago.
It was a treat to see my
band director from high school still leading the Rotterdam Town band last
summer at the Lake George Festival. I had some excellent teachers who
instilled a love of music in me.

What you most enjoy,
or find especially fulfilling, about being a part of Community Band: |
I enjoy the friends I
have made in the band - we are like one big family in the clarinet
section! I love having my family members attend my concerts...especially
my parents (after all these years!) My kids see that people do play
instruments after graduating from high school and that it's definitely
worth all the hours of practicing.

Of the music we play,
is there a type or piece that is your favorite: |
I enjoy the challenge of
the more difficult music we play during the year, but love the marches we
play during the summer. |
