Barb
Altonberg
Barb played flute through high
school, and has been playing with the band for ten years.
A resident of Honeoye Falls, she has two daughters, Lisa (a
French and Spanish teacher) and Wendy (a senior at University of
Rochester) who both also play flute.
Employed at HF-L High School as a Library Assistant, many of
Barb’s other activities are also connected to the school, including
being yearbook advisor, working on the musicals, and co-chairing the
HF-L Music Boosters. She is
also active in her church, teaching Sunday School and taking the Senior
High Youth Group on yearly mission trips. In her spare time, when she’s not sorting band music, she
enjoys reading and walking.
Dave
Borden
A
founding member of HFCCB, Dave has been playing euphonium for “about
120 years,” or since fifth grade.
He remembers his father standing with him every morning before
school, making him practice his horn, which he says made him angry at
the time but is something he is now grateful for.
Dave resides in Honeoye Falls, and is a retired Education
Counselor, having worked at MCC as well as the HF-L, Pittsford, and
Middlesex Valley school districts.
He and wife Dorothy have raised four children, including three
daughters and an injury-prone son.
He enjoys being with his grandchildren, gardening, golf, travel,
and singing with the Honeoye Falls Community Big Band.
Mark Borden
When not occupied with his current
duties as Acting Director of HFCCB, Mark Borden is busy with his day job
as Director of Instrumental Music at the HF-L High School.
Originally a euphonium player, when wife Lindsey is directing the
community band Mark plays French horn, which he started playing ten
years ago to fill a need in the band.
His other musical activities include directing and playing valve
trombone in the Honeoye Falls Community Big Band, and directing the
Rochester Area Jazz Ensemble. Mark
has Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Music from Ithaca College and,
all told, has been directing bands for 18 years.
When not involved in musical pursuits, he likes to play
volleyball and softball, and to spend time with Lindsey and their three
daughters, Kelsey (6), Emily (4), and Amanda (2).
Alethea Coutler
Publicity Manager Alethea Coulter has been playing
flute for 22 years. She and
her husband, the well-known HFCCB trumpeter Geoff Furman, reside in
Rush. Alethea is employed
by the United Cerebral Palsy Association as a Service Coordinator for
the developmentally disabled. She
lists geneology, kickboxing, and travel as her hobbies.
Pat
Graham
Concert Manager Pat Graham is a
member of the HFCCB trumpet section.
Pat played trumpet through high school, and returned to playing the
instrument several years ago after, as she puts it, “a break of more
years than I care to admit.”
Pat
resides in Mendon with her husband David, and works as a Science Aide and
Chemical Hygiene Officer for the Brighton School District.
Her daughter Erin is away at college most of the year, but plays
clarinet with the band when she’s home in the summer.
Pat
lists cross country skiing as a hobby, and says she and David are kept
pretty busy during the winter months traveling around the Northeast to
watch Erin’s ski races.
